On November 12, the 2025 World Power Battery Conference grandly opened at the Yibin International Convention and Exhibition Center in Sichuan . Organized by the People's Government of Sichuan Province , this international event has been successfully held four times since 2022 .

It has cumulatively released over 600 new technologies, products, and applications, and signed more than 200 major projects with a total investment nearing 300 billion yuan , establishing itself as a significant platform for global exchange and cooperation in the power battery industry .

At the opening ceremony, China's Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Xin Guobin, revealed that more than 50 Chinese power battery-related enterprises have established localized production and supply overseas , demonstrating the robust global expansion momentum of China's battery industry.

01 Themed “New Vision, New Ecology, New Opportunities”

The conference has meticulously planned a series of "1+1+6+N" events , including one opening ceremony, one plenary session, six thematic meetings, and multiple exhibitions and side activities .

The six thematic sessions focus precisely on six key areas: forward-looking technology, new energy storage, recycling and reuse, innovative applications, logistics and supply chain, and quality strengthening of the supply chain .

The exhibitions will centrally showcase application scenarios of cutting-edge technologies like the low-altitude economy, embodied AI, electric tools, and electric vessels , vividly demonstrating the diverse application prospects of power battery technology.

The World Power Battery Conference has been held for four consecutive years . Yibin, the host city, has seen its power battery output value exceed 100 billion yuan in both 2023 and 2024, making it the city's second 100-billion-yuan industry after liquor .

50 Chinese Battery Enterprises

Vice Minister Xin Guobin emphasized at the opening ceremony that China, in its practice of developing the power battery industry, actively participates in the formulation of international standards and regulations, and supports Chinese and foreign enterprises in achieving common development through joint ventures, cooperation, and building factories overseas .

“Currently, more than 50 Chinese enterprises have achieved localized production and supply overseas,” stated Xin Guobin . This data signifies that China's power battery industry has upgraded from simple product export to comprehensive global localized layout.

Regarding the next steps, Xin Guobin stated that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will improve support policies and enhance coordination among all parties .

According to the “15th Five-Year Plan” for the development of the new energy vehicle and new battery industry, China will define development goals and key tasks to provide guidance for the industry .

03 International Technical Cooperation

On the same day, South Korean battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution and U.S. startup South8 Technologies announced a partnership to jointly develop battery cells for aerospace applications .

The two parties will collaborate to develop high-performance batteries using South8's liquefied gas electrolyte technology .

This technology enables stable battery operation even in extreme environments below minus 60 degrees Celsius, far exceeding the operating limit of conventional liquid electrolytes, which is around minus 20 degrees Celsius .

An official from LG Energy Solution stated that this cooperation will help the company “continue to generate new customer value in various sectors, including aerospace exploration” .

04 Structural Transformation

The power battery industry is not only developing rapidly globally but also injecting new momentum into regional economies.

Taking Yibin, the host city of the conference, as an example, the output value of Yibin's power battery industry exceeded 100 billion yuan in both 2023 and 2024, becoming the local second 100-billion-yuan industry after liquor .

This emerging industry helped push Yibin's total economic volume past the 400 billion yuan mark, becoming the main engine driving economic growth .

Yibin has also systematically built ten demonstration application scenarios. The city's vehicle electrification rate exceeds 10%, and it has nearly 14,000 public charging interfaces, with both indicators ranking second in Sichuan Province .

05 Future Policy Directives

Vice Minister Xin Guobin outlined that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will promote the development of the power battery industry from four aspects :

Define development goals and key tasks according to the “15th Five-Year Plan” for the new energy vehicle and new battery industry.

Expand application scenarios, build an integrated new ecology, support the battery swap model transformation, and pilot vehicle-grid interaction.

Improve the governance system, finalize the interim measures for comprehensive utilization of power batteries, and research and establish a carbon management policy system for power batteries.

Adhere to opening up, expand cooperation space, and accelerate the coordination of rules, standards, and subsidies.

Yibin, a city traditionally famous for its liquor, is now undergoing a remarkable industrial transformation driven by power batteries .

As global electrification accelerates, power batteries, as the core driving force, are becoming a technological high ground fiercely contested by countries worldwide.

From Sichuan's Yibin to Seoul in South Korea, from technological innovation to global layout, a transformation in energy storage is fully unfolding.
